Young Learner

My work experience was at a IT solutions company, I often fixed computers, which helped me improve my problem-solving skills. At the start, I was unsure, but as I solved harder problems, my confidence grew and I became more confident in my own ability. I have always found social situations difficult, especially meeting new people, being put somewhere unfamiliar pushed me out of my conform zone but gradually I became more comfortable.

While I enjoyed IT, particularly the problem-solving aspect, I discovered my real interest in web development. I like the mix of creativity and technical skill in building websites. The experience helped me make a decision about the direction I wanted to take, and now I’m focused on web development, with some IT and photography work on the side. I am doing a Supported Internship on these topics.

Work Experience changes the lives of the young people at Market Field. The established Work Experience programme at Market Field College is demonstrative of its impact. Statistically speaking, 4.8% of learners experiencing SEND are likely to leave education for paid employment. At Market Field, an outstanding 39.3% were successful in obtaining paid employment upon leaving in 2024. This is, in part, due to our ongoing commitment to providing students with a range of experiences across a variety of industries. 

Learners share positive stories of their experiences. The increase in confidence and communication skills is apparent as learners develop new and transferable work-based skills. Allowing learners the opportunity to find what they like, and what they don't like, gives them far greater autonomy when making decisions related to their futures.
